DARK-THROATED SEEDEATER Sporophila ruficollis NEAR THREATENED
One of the "capuccino" seedeaters, adult males of this distinctive seedeater are readily identifiable on account of their mostly rufous plumage and dark throats. Problems in identification arise with females, which are much like the females of other related species, and immature males which show confusing patternation and variable amounts of "dark" on the throat. This is a migrant species, forming large mixed flocks with other seedeaters on passage through Paraguay from October to December.
