SCORPION SNAKE Philodryas agassizii
An atypical Philodryas, formerly placed in the genus Pseudablabes. It is a slow moving, unaggressive and partly subterranean species which sets it apart from many of its congeners. The diagnostic character for this species in the genus is the presence of 13 midbody scale rows. The images below are of only the second record of this species in Paraguay, the only other record being that of a specimen in the MNHNP which lack any collection data. Consequently this provides the first Paraguayan locality data for the species.
