WHISTLING FROG Leptodactylus fuscus
The numerous species of Leptodactylus frogs are what could be termed "typical frogs", sharing essentially the same characteristics as you might expect in a stereotypical "frog". This is a common frog, his whistling call being characteristic of the species and heard widely. They are burrow dwellers, usually found hiding in tussocks of grass in areas prone to flooding.

1 (FPANF191RE) call recorded Loma Plata, Departamento Boquerón (Paul Smith October 2009).
The longer whistled fweep call is this species, the shorter notes are Leptodactylus bufonius
2 (FPANF656RE) call recorded Fortín Toledo, Departamento Boquerón (Paul Smith October 2013).
In this second cut Leptodactylus bufonius and Leptodactylus laticeps are responsible for the shorter whistles.
Gallery 2 - Adult with longitudinal dorsal line
This form is more uncommon than the typical form and occasionally creates confusion with other species.
