Dasypus armadillos are comonly known as "long-nosed" armadillos or Narigones in Spanish, for obvious reasons. They are characterised by the long thin snout and big rabbit-like ears. The Seven-banded is a small, open country species found mainly in the northern half of Paraguay. It is best distinguished from other species by its dark colouration and 6 or 7 uniformly dark movable bands on the carapace.
