AMAZON KINGFISHER Chloroceryle amazona
A big daddy version of the Green Kingfisher, the Amazon is a large and powerful bird with a vicious, dagger-like bill designed to snatch fish from their aquatic domain. For the most part they are seen perched on the edges of waterways with head bowed waiting to strike. Approach too closely though and youŽll make him nervous, he`ll start to bob his head and flick his tail whilst giving loud "chik" calls. One step too far and he`ll dart away with a low direct flight, protesting his annoyance at your disturbance of his fishing routine.
