BOA CONSTRICTOR Boa constrictor
The mighty Boa Constrictor needs no introduction. Though he is non-venomous (he kills his prey by constriction) he is still capable of a nasty bite! Boa Constrictors are attractively-patterned but not for aesthetic purposes! Their complex colouration helps to break-up the outline of the snake against a carpet of dead leaves, meaning that you could pass right by him without ever knowing he was there! Two subspecies occur in Paraguay, the gorgeous amarali (Gallery 1) in the Orient and duller occidentalis (Gallery 2) in the Chaco.
