BRAZILIAN DUCK Amazonetta brasiliensis
The commonest and most widespread of the Paraguayan Ducks is the Brazilian Duck (or Brazilian Teal as it is sometimes known). It is found only on freshwater sources, so is absent from the saline lagoons of the Central Chaco, but small flocks happily occupy cattle ponds, marshes and rivers elsewhere in the Chaco. Though it is largely dull brownish at rest, a bright aquamarine band across the wings makes them stunningly beautiful in flight.
