CHACO SIDE-NECKED TURTLE Acanthochelys pallidipectoris
Side-necked Turtles are so named because of the way they adopt their defensive posture, bending the long neck sideways so that it fits neatly under the lip of the shell. This species is found in the Chaco were it must adapt to continually changing water levels and, like other turtle species that occur there, is sometimes found far from water in search of a new pond after the old one dries up!
