SCUTELLARIDAE: TORTOISE BUGS
Superficially similar to the Pentatomid Shield Bugs, members of this family are recognised by the greatly enlarged scutellum that covers most of the abdomen like a tortoise shell. Dorsally they are often highly convex. Some species are brightly coloured, though others have cryptic patternation. These are sap-sucking bugs and some have been declared pests. We highly recommend that anybody interested in this group check out Dr David Rider´s Pentatomoidea Home Page for further information.
