WHITE-SHOULDERED FIRE-EYE Pyriglena leucoptera ATLANTIC FOREST
Lurking unseen in the densest tangles of the humid forest undergrowth, pairs of White-shouldered Fire-eyes go about their daily business. They are particularly fond of impenetrable Chusquea bamboo, where they can descend to the ground safe in the knowledge that large predators (and birdwatchers) cannot follow. Fire-eyes are most often seen when they attend ant swarms, not preying on the ants themselves, but snatching the insects that the roving hordes stir up in their wake.
