SAFFRON TOUCANET Pteroglossus bailloni NEAR THREATENED ATLANTIC FOREST
The "Banana Aracari" is arguably the most attractive of the Paraguayan representatives of a family with many candidates for the title! He is certainly one of the most sought after species amongst birdwatchers. Its a sociable bird occurring in small flocks which are often best detected by voice. One of the best places to see them is at ECOSARA Parque Nacional San Rafael, where at certain times of year they emerge to raid the crop of fruits growing in the garden, being particularly fond of blackberries!
