AMERICAN CLIFF SWALLOW Petrochelidon pyyrhonota
A small swallow with a pale rump, this species has the strange habitat of arriving in front of storms in areas where it has previously been absent - hence the Spanish name Golondrina de tormenta! It is vaguely similar in pattern to the Barn Swallow, but note the much whiter underparts and quite differently shaped tail. Gregarious in behaviour, this species is often in the company of other swallows and martins, typically flying higher than most of their companions.
