BARN SWALLOW Hirundo rustica
Northern hemisphere birders will already be familiar with this bird. They are migrants in Paraguay, present from September through to April and they undergo moult here, so at first at least they dont look their best! He is a graceful creature, with long, scythe-shaped wings and a long deeply-forked tail. Typically they perform long, low, swooping flights, often turning around and retracing the path to give you a second look!
