BROWN-CRESTED MYIARCHUS Myiarchus tyrannulus
On the list of birds which give birdwatchers most headaches, the Myiarchus flycatchers are second only to the Elaenias! Fortunately the three Paraguayan species have very different vocalisations from each other, a major step towards getting their identity right!.

The Myiarchus are a challenging group of which the Brown-crested is the brightest member. Note the distinct whitish wing-bars, the wholly black bill (which immediately eliminates Swainson´s Myiarchus) and the rufous on the tail, particularly prominent on the underside (compare with Short-crested).
