GREEN-BARRED FLICKER Colaptes melanochloros
Like the Campo Flicker, the Green-barred Flicker is an open-country woodpecker, prettier than its close relative but not quite as common. They are less sociable too, far more often seen alone or in pairs, and rather than out and out grassland they prefer at least some tree cover to at least occasionally behave as a woodpecker really should. Most of their foraging is done on the ground, hopping and probing the soil for invertebrates.
