CHRYSOMELINAE - BROAD-BODIED LEAF BEETLES
Members of this subfamily are convex-bodied, phytophagous beetles, and frequently attractively coloured. The head is partly inserted into the prothorax and the eyes are emarginate. The antennae are of moderate length and clavate with the insertion separated by the width of the frons. The pronotum is slightly convex with well defined lateral margins and almost as broad as the base of the elytra. Procoxae are transversely oval and the third segment is complete. The elytra cover the pygidium and and have wide epipleura. Length varies from 3 to 15mm. This subfamily includes some serious agricultural pests, including the infamous Colorado Potato Beetle.
