LITTLE WOODPECKER Veniliornis passerinus
As the name suggests this is indeed a "little" woodpecker. It shows a distinct preference for dry forested areas, particularly in the northern Orient. It is a widespread species occurring over much of South America and is usually found alone or in pairs. Your attention is often first grabbed by the loud yaffling laugh that this species produces!
