EASTERN KINGBIRD Tyrannus tyrannus

You can imagine our surprise when we came across this individual at PN San Rafael. It was the second ever record of the species in eastern Paraguay! American birders familiar with the species will hardly recognise it on its wintering grounds where it becomes a quiet and sociable fruit-eater. Well, sociable at least with its own species, we watched this bird aggressively attack every other species that dared to come within a few metres of it, species as diverse as Grey-breasted Martins to Whistling Herons!
