FORK-TAILED FLYCATCHER Tyrannus savana
To Paraguayans he´s the "Tijereta" (scissor bird) and when he flies with his tail opening and closing he does indeed look like an airborne pair of scissors. The Fork-tailed Flycatcher is a migrant, he passes the winter in northern South America and arrives in Paraguay with the first days of spring to commence breeding activity. Displaying males are often seen in October and November, flying low with fluttery wings and the glorious tail trailing behind, uttering a croaking chatter that doesn´t quite fit with the majesty of the rest of the display.
