HOUSE WREN Troglodytes aedon
Creeping mouse-like through the vegetation, the House Wren would be easily overlooked were he not so fond of the company of man and the owner of a big voice that defies his little body. Known to the Paraguayans as “Ratonera” (ratón meaning mouse) for their rodent-like form of locomotion, there isn't a garden in the country which isn't frequented by this ubiquitous bird. Adaptable, bold, curious and confiding, they are well known for building their nests in anything from an empty plant pot to the eaves of a house roof, and though they may not be much to look at, their endearing character makes them one of the most popular inhabitants of Paraguayan towns.
