PALM TANAGER Thraupis palmarum
Abundant further north in South America, this dull greenish tanager is a real rarity in Paraguay where occasional vagrants reach the extreme north-east corner of the country. The individual in the photograph below represents the first documented record of the species in Paraguay, though there are at least three previous reliable sight records, two of them from the early 20th Century, one by Paul Scharf in 1989 and one by Monica Montiel and Hugo del Castillo in 2006.
