RUFOUS-RUMPED SEEDEATER Sporophila hypochroma NEAR THREATENED
An identification headache for Paraguayan birders because of its similarity to Tawny-bellied Seedeater, the Rufous-rumped is much darker below, almost chestnut, and shows little contrast with the grey of the upperparts. A rare seedeater it often joins mixed flocks of Sporophilas as they migrate through the country in late October and November.
