CHESTNUT SEEDEATER Sporophila cinnamomea
VULNERABLE MESOPOTAMIAN GRASSLANDS
Almost entirely rich, chestnut-brown, this distinctive seedeater is a rare sight, victim of a cagebird trade that mercilessly persecuted them at their breeding grounds in Brazil. He is a migrant in Paraguay, with individuals cropping up with mixed flocks of seedeaters in the strangest of places as they pass through the country - I even found one near the centre of the city of Encarnación in 2005!!!
