SPOT-WINGED FALCONET Spiziapteryx circumcincta
Looking pretty-much like a shaggy brown American Kestrel you may wonder what all the fuss is about this little falcon! In fact he is one of the Chaco Big 6, those species that top the want-lists of visiting birders to the Chaco. Part of the reason for it being in such demand is that it occurs only in the remotest and most inhopsitable parts of the Chaco. However, once encountered he is extremely tame and co-operative with photographers. These little falconets frequently build their nests in the huge stick cities of Monk Parakeets, the two making surprisingly friendly neighbours.
