SATYRINAE - SATYRS
Satyrs are dull brown butterflies of forest undergrowth - they tend to shun sunlight. They are frequently abundant, but their dull colouration and small size makes identification difficult. Generally underwing patterns are more useful for identification purposes than upperwings. Satyrs are weak, fluttery fliers and there are an estimated 2000 species worldwide.
