ORANGE-BELLIED ESCUERZO Proceratophrys avelinoi
Click here for articles about this species
A warty, toad-like little frog that was only described as recently as 1993. It passes much of the year underground and appears to be uncommon across its range. There are in fact only a handful of records of the species in Paraguay (see journal article). It can be distinguished by its orange-spotted belly and the pattern of warty pads on the hindfoot.
