BLACK-AND-RUFOUS WARBLING-FINCH Poospiza nigrorufa
The range of this handsome Warbling-Finch just about reaches into southern Paraguay where he is a scarce inhabitant of grassy marshes. Like many of the birds that share his habitat he can be difficult to observe, skulking low to the ground, but he can be approachable and even tame in the early morning when he perches up to preen and enjoy the sun's first rays. Learn his distinctive call though and he can be more easily found.
