PIED-BILLED GREBE Podilymbus podiceps
To North American birders the Pied-billed Grebe needs no introduction, in fact he is the most widespread of all the New World grebes! Grebes are expert swimmers with lobed toes and come to land only to breed. In fact they are not very fond of land at all, their legs are set so far back on their body that it means that walking becomes a terrible chore! He is much more at home on the water where he dives freely in search of his invertebrate prey.
