AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER Pluvialis dominica
A common migrant plover, this species will be familiar to North American birders. However it is unusual to see a bird in Paraguay decked out in the regal black and gold plumage worn up north, though occasionally moulting birds have a tatty mix of old breeding and new winter feathers. The much rarer Grey Plover sometimes occurs in the same areas as this species, but note the pale underwing and much slenderer form of the Golden.
