BLACK-FRONTED PIPING-GUAN Pipile jacutinga ENDANGERED ATLANTIC FOREST
The decline of the Yacutinga (as the Guaranķ call him) has been astonishingly rapid and they are now confined to only a few isolated areas of forest in eastern Paraguay and southern Brazil. If it were to become extinct it would truly be a loss, for this bird is one of the weirdest inhabitants of the Atlantic forest. Yacutingas are particularly fond of Laurel berries, so if you find a Laurel tree in fruit, there might just be a Yacutinga in the vicinity.
