PIMELODIDAE - LONG-WHISKERED CATFISH
Taxonomic nightmare sums up this family, with large numbers of undescribed species existing and constant revisions of the family. Pimelodids have three pairs of barbels with the maxillary barbels particularly long. They appear scaless and the adipose fin is well developed. They are bottom dwellers and some can reach considerable sizes, making them attractive to fishermen.
