CAPPED HERON Pilherodius pileatus
Decked out in buffy white and with a conspicuous black cap, this species was once considered a close relative of the Nycticorax Night-Herons. In fact he is active during the day. Sadly in Paraguay he is an unusual sight, confined to the Chaco where he inhabits isolated wetlands along the Rios Paraguay and Pilcomayo. If you do get lucky enough to see one take the time to admire him. It could be a while before you see another one!
