YELLOW-BROWED WOODPECKER Piculus aurulentus
NEAR THREATENED ATLANTIC FOREST
Confusingly referred to as White-browed Woodpecker in some of the literature the form found in the Atlantic Forests of Paraguay has a yellow supercilium, hence the different common name! Its a rare woodpecker, extremely handsome and unmistakeable within its habitat, though somewhat similar to the Golden-green Woodpecker - which prefers drier areas.
