WHITE-TIPPED PLANTCUTTER Phytotoma rutila
The Plantcutters are a uniquely odd group of birds. They have short, thick bills with a serrated edge, an adaptation to a diet that consists mostly of leaves! For a long time taxonomists have debated their closest relatives, and they were once placed with the Cotingas (Cotingidae), though they now are considered to be members of their own family Phytotomidae. As if the bird wasn´t strange enough it also possesses a bizarre voice which sounds uncannily like a fishing reel giving line during casting!
