DUSKY-LEGGED GUAN Penelope obscura
Reports of this larger, darker guan in Paraguay have often come shrouded in mystery. The species has long been documented for south-eastern Paraguay, but regular sightings have not been forthcoming. Bertoni even listed the species for the Humid Chaco, but nobody has seen them there since. In modern times the species has been found only at San Rafael. Mystery again shrouds the bird in the images. It was part of a pair, one of which fled into the forest. However the location is also home to a zoo, and it is uncertain whether these birds were wild or part of the collection!
