WHITE-WINGED BECARD Pachyramphus polychopterus
A migratory species, the White-winged is the most commonly-encountered of the Becards. Flycatcher-like in behaviour, males bear a startling resemblance to the completely unrelated Variable Antshrike and must be separated with care!  Once classed with the flycatchers (Tyrannidae) and even the Cotingas (Cotingas) the taxonomic position of the Becards has recently been confirmed to lie among the newly-defined "Schiffornis Assemblage" (Tityridae).
