ROSY-BILLED POCHARD Netta peposaca
With his swollen red bill the male is a handsome bird. His scientific name peposaca is derived from the Guaraní name Ypé pepo saka, which means "duck with clear wings" a reference to the eyecatching white patches on the wing whcih are visible only in flight. Though they are pochards, they dive less frequently than their northern hemisphere relatives, spending at least as much time dabbling for food or upending.
