HAIRY-TAILED BOLO MOUSE Necromys lasiurus
A small mouse with the tail shorter than the head and body, this is a common species in grassland and cerrado areas though it occasionally occurs in forest. This species can be most easily identified by its prominent eye-ring combined with the dark upper surface of the feet. Despite the common name the tail is uniformly-coloured and only lightly haired. Activity is usually diurnal and the species is almost exclusively terrestrial, experiencing population booms during the wet season and being less common at other times of year.
