BARRED FOREST-FALCON Micrastur ruficollis
Vocal studies suggest that this species is one of the most numerous forest raptors in South America, but while hearing it is no problem, getting your binoculars on one is a whole different ball game. Every morning and evening the forest is regaled by the sounds of calling Forest-Falcons, yet the voice has a strange quality that makes it incredibly difficult to trace. Most sightings of this species involve a breif glimpse as a bird flies rapidly along a forest track in front of you, twisting and turning as it navigates the many curves with the agility and expertise of a bird that knows the forest like the back of its hand (or should that be wings?!)
