LONG-FURRED  WOOLLY MOUSE OPOSSUM Marmosa paraguayana
Smith P 2009 - FAUNA Paraguay Handbook of the Mammals of Paraguay Number 30 Long-furred Woolly Mouse Opossum Marmosa paraguayana
Pdf file 764kb

Aptly named and rarely seen, this little arboreal opossum is a nocturnal inhabitant of humid forests where he emerges after dark to hunt for insects and consume fruit and nectar. His huge eyes help him to see in the dark, and appear even larger than they are because of the dark "spectacles" that surround them. Named for his thick woolly fur, the bicoloured tail helps identify this species within its Paraguayan range and habitat habitat.
