BRAZILIAN MERGANSER Mergus octosetaceus CRITICALLY ENDANGERED
This extremely rare species is considered extinct in Paraguay. However during interviews with locals in the area around the Rio Carapá some interviewees apparently recognised the species and claimed that they had seen it some years previously. As tantalising as these claims may be, there is no hard evidence of its continued existence in Paraguay.
