GREY BROCKET-DEER Mazama gouazoupira
This little deer is the most commonly encountered of the Paraguayan deer, and unfortunately a favourite with hunters! Recently killed individuals are often seen hung up for sale along the Ruta Trans-Chaco. It is an inhabitant of semi-open scrubby country and dry forest. Like other deer males grow and shed their antlers annually. In this species and other Brocket-Deer the antlers are simple, lacking the branch like structure (bifurcations) of other species.
