LUCANIDAE - STAG BEETLES
Due to their large size and impressive head weaponry, the Stag Beetles are amongst the most charismatic of all beetles. They are species of forested areas where they lay their eggs into decaying wood on which the larva will feed. Development is extremely slow and in some species may take several years before the adult form is reached. Unfortunately their large size and eyecatching appearance has made them a target for recreational insect collectors and they have been reduced in numbers in many areas.
