ALMADEN LIOPHIS Erythrolamprus almadensis
Like other species of Erythrolamprus (ex-Liophis) this species is a fast-moving, ground-dwelling snake. Non-aggressive, when threatened they flatten the body to make themselves appear larger, but if that fails they hide the head under the body and hope you leave them alone!! It is a small species reaching a maximum of 60cm and typical of open grassy areas where they feed on rodents and lizards. Note the distinctive reddish pattern on the underside.
