SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER Limnodromus griseus
Welcome to the latest addition to the Paraguayan avifauna, yet another North American wader has decided to spend some time in the Chaco. Identification to species level of dowitchers is extremely difficult, but the bird has all the hallmarks of a Short-billed (bill drooping at tip, wing tips falling just beyond the tail tip etc) - which anyway winters further south in South America than the other candidate Long-billed Dowitcher. Two birds were later seen in the same area during early November 2008 by Hugo del Castillo. This is the first confirmed record of the species in Paraguay.
