PEPPER FROG Leptodactylus labyrinthicus
A large Leptodactylus, the Pepper Frog builds a foam nest just like other members of the family. Unlike many others they deposit their foam nest on land, though usually close to a water source. Within any one nest only some of the eggs are fertilised, the unfertilised eggs acting as a food source for the hatchling tadpoles during their early growth. Eventually when the rains come they wash the foam nest and its tadpoles, into the nearby water where they complete their development.
