ROUND-EYED BUDGETT´S FROG Lepidobatrachus laevis CHACO
Ugly is as good a descriptive word as there is for this frog - his huge head and beady eyes give him a distinctive appearance. Mean is another, he is large and aggressive and doesn´t need to be asked twice to vent his anger, the rows of tooth-like odontoids that line his mouth capable of inflicting a nasty bite! This is a subterranean species, spending much of the year encased in an underground cocoon and emerging only during the rainy season. There are three very similar species in this genus. Note the prominent V-shaped glandular ridges and circular pupil which help identify this species.
