OCELOT Leopardus pardalis
Largest of the small cats, the Ocelot is known to the Guaraní as the Jaguarete´i or "little Jaguar" - a name that is extremely fitting. Identification of small cats when presented with a brief view (which is all they usually allow!) is difficult, but try to concentrate on the structure of the animal rather than the pattern of the coat (which is eyecatching but often extremely variable!). Ocelots are large powerful cats, with a robust head, pinkish nose, shortish legs and a short tail.
