EULER´S FLYCATCHER Lathrotriccus euleri
There is much debate about the status of this little brown flycatcher. In the spring and summer he is a common and noisy inhabitant of the Atlantic forest, calling incessantly and making him quite conspicuous despite his nondescript plumage. In winter though there are only a handful of records. Is he a migrant with a few birds too lazy to make the trip staying to pass the winter? Or is he a resident, just a lot quieter during the winter months and hence a lot more difficult to find?

The nondescript nature of this drab little forest flycatcher can make it initially confusing. During the spring and summer they are highly vocal. Non-vocalising birds are most likely confused with Fuscous Flycatcher Cnemotriccus fuscatus which frequently occurs in the same habitats and on the face of it is rather similar. Note however that Fuscous Flycatcher has a wholly black bill, a prominent supercilium and dark line through the eye and that it is more richly coloured above. Furthermore Fuscous Flycatcher also occurs in dry forest habitats from where this species is usually absent. Note that the call note of this species is very similar to that of the Greenish Elaenia.
