HOARY BAT Lasiurus cinereus
A large, common and distinctive bat, the Hoary Bat can be immediately recognised by his marbled pelage and yellowish "balaclava". It is an insectivorous species, often found swooping around street lights in urban areas. By day they roost alone in densely-foliaged trees. Lasiurus bats are unusual in that the upper surface of the uropatagium (tail membrane) is furred.
